Phil Obado

Director of Bands

Phil Obado received his Master's Degree in Music Education from Florida State University and his Bachelor's degree in Music Education and Trombone Performance from Ithaca College in New York.

Prior to teaching at University High School, he was at South Fork High School in Stuart, FL and Florida High in Tallahassee, FL. Bands under Mr. Obado have never received anything less than a Superior Rating at any State Music Performance Assessment and have performed for audiences in cities from New York City to Winter Park, Colorado. While a graduate assistant at FSU, he taught or assisted the Campus Band, the undergraduate Chamber Winds (Harmonie), the trombone choir, and the Marching Chiefs. As a trombonist, Mr. Obado has performed in various venues from New York City to Moscow and is a member of the Orlando Concert Band and Southern Winds.

This is Mr. Obado's fifth year at University High School where he will co-direct the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Freshman Band, direct Jazz Band II and String Orchestra and teach the IB Music Class.

This is Mr. Steff's first year at University High School where he will direct the Percussion Studio and Jazz Band I.
